About Language and Leisure
Language and Leisure is based in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland - a picturesque seaside town very near the capital, Dublin.
We provide two excellent programmes:
- an annual English language summer school for students aged 13 to 18, with beginner to advanced level English
- an academic year programme for students who want to study in an Irish secondary school
Many of our students stay with our host families - we believe that by creating a warm family atmosphere, learning English can be fun!
Meeting the needs of young learners
We ensure that the teaching is of the highest standards and that lessons meet the real needs of young learners. Our course addresses the following four language skills:
- speaking
- listening
- reading
- writing
Importance is also given to grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.
We take into account different learning styles and use a wide range of communicative approaches including task-based learning and project work.
Host families
All of our host families are selected personally by Andrew Basquille, Director of Language and Leisure. Many of them have been hosting students for us for over 10 years; they know how important it is to provide students a home away from home and take their responsibility very seriously. Our families host students because they have a genuine interest in people and they love to talk and to learn about other cultures. They regard the experience of meeting foreign people as important for their own children.
Our leisure activities
Over the years we have developed a great balance between fun and cultural activities. For every visit to a gallery or museum, there is a sport, music or dance activity.
We look forward to welcoming, teaching and building long-lasting relationships with our students - and many of them come back to us year after year, Some even go on to work with us as young adult monitors.
Our Director of Studies
The school is run by Director of Studies, Andrew Basquille (B.Comm H.Dip Delta), who selects host families personally and overseas all aspects of the learning and leisure activities. During our courses, he is always available to ensure that we provide classes, activities and accommodation of the highest quality.
